I just received a press release from the folks at Cyberlink regarding their next “ooh ahh” 3D effects developments. This year at the Computex trade show in Taipei they will be demonstrating some pretty cool 3D effects for webcams.

The gist of it is that while you are online with whoever having a little chat using your webcam the program will be able to create and then control virtual objects on the fly. The software will be able to recognize real objects that are part of the video stream and then allow you to generate a 3D object that can be added to the webcam video in real time.

With 3D augmented reality effects, the opportunities for consumers to have fun while connecting with friends or just being creative on their own are nearly endless.

“Augmented reality is one of the most exciting new technologies, and it is a perfect fit for Cyberlink’s video creation software applications,” said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. “This is our first application to incorporate 3D augmented reality in a way that is fun, fascinating, and easy for everyone to enjoy. The technology itself sounds pretty amazing and I look forward to seeing it action for real. Cyberlink plan to release the product sometime late 2010.
