Video Editing Software Tips Blog Threatened by Muvee

Muvee Autoproducer revealRecently I posted an article on the current rash of easy video editing software products that have been released by the big software companies. I made mention of Corel, Cyberlink and a few others.

As usual the same three people read that post as usually read my posts so I figured life would go on.

But NO! Little did I realize that big brother, in the form of miffed video editing software maker Muvee muvee (oops, it’s in the terms and conditions that you use the lower case “m”) was watching.

Yesterday I recieved this email. Call me paranoid if you will but is it only me that can see the sinister undertones in this communication? Fear not readers for I will not bow to the outrageous bullying of some corporate behemouth like Muvee muvee (doh!).

Read it for yourself and make your own judgements then read my scintillating (even if I do say so myself) reply below:

“Hi Lance,

Just saw your article on Easy Video Editing Software. Really good stuff, especially because there have been a lot of news announcements coming from these products’ creators. I know you are familiar with muvee and was just curious if you felt muvee Reveal would fit in to this category. Due to our “automatic” editing nature we often get left out of such reviews but because of our ability to perform the functions you mentioned (easy editing, burn to DVD) I do think it is a perfect fit. (and our autoProducer series has had these functions for years!)

Would love to discuss if you have a chance!

Best,

Lindsay Stevens

Dear Corporate minion/lackey calling yourself Lindsay (if that really IS your name),

Thank you for your email regarding Muvee muvee Reveal being ommitted from my post on easy video editing software programs. I do not take kindly to veiled threats such as these and do not think for a minute that I will kneel before your corporate might.

I am just a simple blogger going about my business and your actions left me no choice but to download your so-called “Automatic Video Editing Software” and test it for myself.

As I suspected the software failed in every important aspect of video editing and clearly shows that your engineers need a severe re-introduction to reality… allow me to elucidate (that means to clarify by further explanation).

Installation.

I run an older computer used for office work, online work and my child’s idiotic online games where he runs around “virtually” killing people he has never met, has no reason to kill and don’t exist anyway… I just don’t get it. I mean what is the point… ok that’s not the point either. I digress.

When I tried to install the software I recieved NO error messages, NO instructions to change, install, download or otherwise adjust some other piece of obscure software or setting. The software simply installed. What the hell is that all about?

I am afraid your product is doomed if you continue to take this attitude. The whole point of running video editing software of any nature on any version of the Windows operating system is to gain two things:

1. Maximum time wasted researching obscure references to unknown .dll files and previously hidden settings located within the bowels of the Windows operating system.

2. To generate the greatest possible amount of aggravation up to the point of yelling at the computer monitor but not so great as to cause the operators fist to actually come into contact with the aforementioned monitor.

Muvee muvee Reveal failed on both counts and I must note that the only aggravation it caused was that I had no time to prepare my customary “installation” cup of coffee that I can usually make while I wait for any decent software’s first failure message.

Compatibility

The program touted itself as being compatible with a wide range of video and image file types. I found that the program actually was compatible with a wide range of video and image file types. I had no need to download further codecs, decoders or even third party conversion software.

Are you insane? I hate to sound like a cracked record here but where is the time wasting? Where is the aggravation?

Ease of Use

Let’s take a look at the main reasons people use video editing software in the first place to understand why muvee just does not “get it” as far as ease of use goes:

1. To achieve an air of activity when no activity is actually occurring whilst consuming the maximum amount of time possible.

This is for people who are in some way “connected” to other people and wish to avoid actual contact with those people. In this category we have husbands, wives, partners, parents, children, friends etc. The purpose of the video editing software is create the idea that they are engaged in some important and time consuming activity that requires their undivided attention.

In this way the person can totally avoid actually interacting with the other people. Examples:

“I’d love to put the garbage out honey but I have to wait until this file renders. Should be done in a couple of hours.”

“I know Dad, I really love aunty Gertrude but I can’t talk to her on the phone right now because my video editing software just crashed and I need to be here while I re-boot.”

“Yeah, the movie sounds great and really I am so disappointed but I am halfway through this video project and will need at least another 40 hours to finish editing it.”

” Oh no… really… I had a lovely time on our date last night. The throwing up thing? I hardly noticed it once I took my shoes off silly! No it’s… ummm… errr… just that I umm… Oh! I have to finish up this video editing project I am on and it’s really urgent and I need about another ummm… oh let’s say 200 hours or so to do it, so well I guess I’d better get going!”

Ok, I could go on but I think you get the picture. Video editing software has as one of its major functions the ability to prevent or avoid direct human contact by by occupying time and attention.

2. The other main purpose of video editing software is as a teaching tool for the Windows operating system.

By failing to perform any number of functions and then laying blame on Windows the software causes the user to spend endless hours digging about in Windows itself for answers as to why. After finding no answers within Windows, the user is then required to go online and spend even more time digging about in online forums and technical sites for the answers.

After having done this a number of times the user has now gained an incredible level of expertise and education on the subject of Windows without even trying… priceless!

Of course there are other uses for video editing software but there is no need to go any further. Suffice to say that Muvee muvee did not deliver in any way on these or any other of the things that people use video editing software for.

So Lindsay person or whatever your name is, your software caused me to have spare time in which I was cruelly forced to interact with other humans known to me and failed utterly to teach me anything about the Windows operating system!

As far as I can tell Muvee muvee seems to do only one thing and given what must be a miniscule market one wonders why it does it at all!

It allows the user to load a bunch of video files and image files into the program. Then it asks for audio. Then you basically click a few buttons to make some choices and a few seconds later it has automatically produced a completed video project that actually looks quite good.

After that and again in a very short amount of time, it then produces that video into a file for uploading to YouTube or something like that or burns to a DVD.

Ha! I laugh at you!

So in conclusion, your Muvee muvee automatic video editing software program thingy automatically creates a completed video project that can include video, image and audio aspects. It appears to do this by using some sort of advanced technology that scans the files and in some way “knows” how to put it all together.

Sadly for you the only people that would want something like that would be people that have other things to do in their lives other than sitting in a darkened room in front of a computer avoiding human contact at all costs! Yeah! Good luck with that one!

Of course no-one wants that and I should know… I am a blogger!

Yours Truly,

Lance

P.S. I have forwarded your threatening email to my lawyers for their consideration so don’t bother trying to continue this campaign of harrassment.

P.P.S. Ok, I don’t really have a lawyer per se but I sent the email to my friend and he said, “Yeah, stick it to the man!” You see that Lindsay? Did you think you would become “the man” when you got that job?

P.P.P.S. Alright I just re-read the email from my friend and he didn’t actually say that. He said, “Stick to the plan.” I am not really sure what he meant by that but you have to understand he had a hard time in the seventies and hasn’t really made much sense to anyone since. There was this awesome Led Zepplin concert and well he went downhill from there.
