Corel have released their first new product for a while and in keeping with their acquisitions last year of the Ulead line of products it is a multi-media suite.
The name of the product is Corel Digital Studio 2010 and it squares up against the offerings from Cyberlink DVD Suite 7, Roxio Creator 2010 and Nero 9.
All of those products offer a bundled software package that includes a video editor, image editor and some form of DVD authoring tool.
So what makes the Corel product different?
Well the interesting thing is that as the first product they have developed under their own steam Digital Studio 2010 has much to offer. To be honest I was quite surprised as I was convinced Corel were going to basically grind the old Ulead products into the ground until they all suffered a slow death.
Digital Studio stands out from the crowd because of one major point. All the bundled tools within the suite operate from the same user interface so you can absolutely seamlessly go from image editing to video editing to media organising to DVD production or direct upload to YouTube all from the same window. The visual workspace never changes and it’s great!
Over the past few years I have had many requests for simple or easy video editing software and usually I have had to recommend Roxio or even Nero for that. Although they have to some degree satisfied that requirement this latest one from Corel really hits the nail on the head.
The individual features within each of the modules of the program are slightly more basic than the Roxio and CyberLink products but that is not the point. The point here is that Digital Studio is a simple, fully integrated multimedia production software that is dead simple to use and works very, very well.
Take a look at the video below and you will get the idea. If you want to quickly and simply organise, edit and produce multimedia and either get it online fast or burn to a disc then this is a great program for those who don’t want to get into all the advanced stuff.
