Avid Introduces Next-Generation of Free Video Editing Solution: VideoSpin 2.0

Just spotted this press press release from Avid Technology the makers of Pinnacle Studio and the very…very! upmarket Avid range of pro video editing software and tools.

Remember, it is a press release so read through the cheesy language! It seems to indicate that the software will only handle .mov files but I haven’t had a chance to check it out for myself.

“Free software makes it easier to create and share entertaining videos on the Web

Tewksbury, Mass, April 14, 2009 – Avid Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) today unveiled VideoSpin® 2.0 – an ideal solution for consumers with no video editing experience who want to quickly and effortlessly share their entertaining videos on the Web. Currently available for free download at www.videospin.com, version 2.0 supports the popular QuickTime® (.mov) file format, providing users with even greater flexibility in how they import videos for editing.

Based on the award-winning Pinnacle Studio™ software, ranked the #1 consumer video editing solution in the U.S. and in major European countries1, VideoSpin has attracted more than 1.5 million users since its initial launch last year. Consumers praise the VideoSpin software for its simplicity in allowing them to quickly create fun videos and share them with friends and family, via email or the Web.

Unlike many other free video editing software packages, VideoSpin does not require users to connect to the Web to create videos.  Users can simply download the application once and edit their work offline. Further, the VideoSpin software doesn’t impose any file size limitations – an important consideration for consumers editing longer videos or videos taken on higher-resolution devices.

VideoSpin 2.0 offers the following enhancements:

* Support for QuickTime file import – now digital still camera and video camera owners can easily import QuickTime files and create compelling movies and slideshows;

* Fit-to-Fill Timeline – with a simple click of a mouse, users can automatically remove the black bars that occasionally appear on videos and photos that do not conform to the timeline aspect ratios;

* Added widescreen support for uploading videos to YouTube;

* Improved overall performance that results in faster editing response times; and

* A streamlined registration process for quicker download

Availability

VideoSpin 2.0 is designed for use with Windows XP and Vista, and is now available for download at no cost. To download VideoSpin or learn more about the supported formats, visit: www.videospin.com.”

Well that sounds rather brilliant as you would expect from a press release! I would be interested to hear from anyone who has taken it for a… wait for it…spin! Hawhaw! get it? VideoSpin… take it for a spin… ah forget it!
